During several of my recent Interior Color Consultations, I have had the opportunity to talk about what color my personal home is painted. I love my interior paint color and wanted to share the story of how I picked it!
When we first moved into our house in 2011, I was thrilled be a homeowner, but I was not so thrilled with the interior paint color. The entire open layout was painted a basic “builder beige” color with a yellow undertone. No offense if you have builder beige walls and love it…it’s just not my cup of tea. I lived with the color until my husband was tired of hearing me complain about it. Just kidding… but not really kidding!
I was one happy lady when I got the green light to have our house re-painted! Well, I was happy, but I was also a bit stressed out. I didn’t want to make a mistake in picking a color that I didn’t absolutely love. Shocking, I know, since this is what I do for a living!! I have found that it is actually way harder for me to pick a color for my own home versus helping someone else. It’s like I have blinders on when it comes to my home because I live in it and see it everyday. I have to step back and take a real look at it when I am making design decisions. I knew that I wanted a neutral and light gray-blue color, but I wanted it to be perfect.
So, I deliberated back and forth with my top favorites and looked up tons of inspiration pictures on Pinterest in order to make my final decision. Back before I got smart and knew that painting a piece of cardboard was the best way to sample paint, I literally had my tiny samples taped up on the wall. I stared at them for a week or so and finally had to make my decision when my painter was there and waiting to go pick up the paint.
I made my final choice and went with Lattice, from Sherwin-Williams. Lattice was perfect because it’s a soft gray that has a hint of blue to it. I had been going back and forth between Lattice and Front Porch, but eventually Lattice won out. I remember holding my breath as they put up the first coat, but was SO pleased with the results!
In Love with Lattice
Lattice feels soothing and restful because the color is light and has a cool undertone. It opens up my home and makes it feel more spacious. It’s like instant square footage without the major renovation! One of the things that surprised me at first (in a good way) was how Lattice looked more blue during the day and more gray at night. This happens with paint, which is why I always tell my clients to make sure and sample the paint they like before committing. I have them paint a sample on cardboard and look at it (with a piece of white paper behind it) on the wall in the morning, noon and night to make sure they love the color at all of the different times of the day.
What is your choice?
If you are searching for a gray-blue color that will brighten and freshen up your home visually, and create a peaceful feel, Lattice is for you! I know it’s been the one for me, going on 5 years strong.
