The Rugh Design Color Wheel
To recap, we have been working on adding ALL of the Sherwin-Williams paint colors to the Rugh Design Color Wheel. Our plan to have all 1700 colors up by the end of 2018 is on track and with this post we are about at the half way point. Which means that we “only” have about 400 more colors to go! We will continue to release 25 new colors with my hand picked color schemes each week. In addition to the new 25 colors a week I will highlight 1 color from Sherwin-Williams that I personally love or stands out.
Recently, we have highlighted Kilim Beige (coffee with cream color), Navajo White (soft creamy yellow), Wool Skein (beige with slight green undertone), Alpaca (warm greige with slight violet undertone) and Dover White (warm white).
Going forward you can find all of our Color Wheel Update posts here.
Featured Color: Colonnade Gray SW 7641
I wanted to highlight a gray color this week that I have gotten a lot of questions and comments on through the Color Wheel. The more that I look at Colonnade Gray, the more I like it. It’s a cross between Agreeable Gray and Repose Gray, two colors that I love and specify often.
Colonnade Gray has more brown undertones to it than Repose Gray, but is less gray than Agreeable Gray. Again, it’s the in between color to Repose and Agreeable; their baby! Now do you see why I like it more? If a client is stuck needing a color that is cooler than Agreeable Gray, but warmer than Repose Gray, viola! Enter Colonnade Gray.
Colonnade Gray is found under the “Timeless” color section of the Sherwin-Williams paint deck, so it can be tricky to find if you are only looking in the “Neutral” section of the deck. I am officially going to add this into my repertoire of greiges/grays as a go-to.
Okay, now that you have a basis for Colonnade Gray, check out my Pinterest gallery for some inspiration. See below and let me know which one you like the most. If you have your own pictures, send them to me and I will post them! Where to use Colonnade Gray
Now, for some ways to incorporate Colonnade Gray in your interior. I love this monochromatic scheme in the inspirational picture below. The pop of white in the trim (Snowbound) and the furniture selections, make the Colonnade Gray stand out even more. Even though Colonnade Gray is a warm gray, the walnut stained wood floors further help to warm up the space and help the gray scheme to not feel too cold and sterile. I also love the shiplap detail behind the fireplace mantle in Dovetail!
Colonnade Gray works perfectly in this home office as the main wall color and as the built-in color. Again, the designer used warmer tones to balance out the gray and create a cozy feel. The red used in the accessories and the window treatments give Colonnade Gray a beautiful touch.
Searching for a gray to paint your kitchen cabinets? Look no further than Colonnade Gray! I love how warm it looks on the cabinets featured below. Paint that is mixed for trim and cabinets takes on a different look than it does on the walls. The combination of the lighting and selections makes Colonnade Gray look more greige than gray and I’m not complaining! For reference, Egret White is the wall color and the fab Snowbound is on the trim and ceilings.
Colonnade Gray looks just as lovely on exteriors as it does on interior walls. It definitely gets lighter on exteriors, so keep that in mind! It is perfect as a main body color with dark gray trim and a fun color on the front door. I love the inspiration picture that I found with this exact color combo!

The Best of the Rest
Colonnade Gray had the spotlight, but I also wanted to highlight a color from the Color Wheel update, Mellow Coral. I love this color! Maybe I just love coral? I don’t know. Coral is a great color to compliment blues and greens, so it could be why. Anyway, if you follow Young House Love, they have been renovating their beach house and guess what color they picked for their exterior? Yep, Mellow Coral. It’s a perfect shade of pinky-coral for an exterior, but also look amazing on the interior for a fun pop of color in a kid’s room or a laundry room.
