The Rugh Design Color Wheel
To recap, we have been working on adding ALL of the Sherwin-Williams paint colors to the Rugh Design Color Wheel. Our plan was to have all 1700 colors up by the end of 2018, but it is looking more and more that we will have all colors up by the end of the Summer! We have a little more than 200 colors to go! We will continue to release 25 new colors with my hand picked color schemes each week. In addition to the new 25 colors a week I will highlight 1 color from Sherwin-Williams that I personally love or stands out.
Going forward you can find all of our Color Wheel Update posts here.
Featured Color: Gauntlet Gray SW 7019
This week I am focusing in on Gauntlet Gray, a gorgeous dark blue-gray color from one of my most used paint swatch cards that includes a top fav of mine: Repose Gray. Gauntlet Gray is a perfect moody accent color for bedrooms, living rooms, bathrooms and cabinets for interiors. Not to mention, it’s an ideal main body color for exteriors!
I admit that I can be conservative when it comes to more saturated colors, but lately I have been more daring in specifying darker colors for not just accent walls, but all walls especially in places like bedrooms and bathrooms. What is nice about Gauntlet Gray, is that the cool of the blue undertones helps to keep the room from not feeling too much like a cave. Cool colors help to keep spaces feeling more open, so despite the saturation of this darker hue, it turns out looking elegant and sophisticated versus dark and cave-like.
Okay, now that you have a basis for Gauntlet Gray, check out my Pinterest gallery for some inspiration. See below and let me know which one you like the most. If you have your own pictures, send them to me and I will post them! Also, check the Gauntlet Gray color scheme page for my hand picked color schemes!
Where to use Gauntlet Gray SW 7019
Even though Gauntlet Gray is a cooler color and keeps spaces feeling more open, there is no getting around the fact that it is a deeper shade of blue-gray. If you know me, you know I like contrast, and what better way to contrast Gauntlet Gray than by using a bright white? The living room pictured below has an accent on the fireplace in an extra white, along with the trim that pops out nicely against Gauntlet Gray.
As I mentioned in the intro, I have really been loving more saturated colors in bedrooms lately. Navy and Indigo have been trending accent colors for awhile and I have especially been loving them in bedrooms on all of the walls (not just one accent wall). Gauntlet Gray looks rich and sophisticated in bedrooms and lends to accents in lighter creams and whites for bedding and artwork.
I am a huge fan of white cabinets since they are so classic, clean and fresh in a kitchen. However, I love accent islands, and Gauntlet Gray fits the bill just right as an accent color for a kitchen island. Especially if you have white quartz countertops and white subway tile for the backsplash! Gauntlet Gray is a perfect and lovely contrast against lighter selections and helps islands stand out as a focal point in the kitchen.
I have to say that as much as I am in love with Gauntlet Gray for interiors, I truly adore it as a main body color for exteriors. I found a gorgeous and sophisticated inspiration picture with white trim accents to accentuate the already rich Gauntlet Gray. You could also flip the contrast and have a white or cream exterior with Gauntlet Gray as the trim color. Not only that, but Gauntlet Gray makes a perfect front door color!

The Best of the Rest
Gauntlet Gray had the spotlight, but I also wanted to highlight a color from the Color Wheel update, Impatient Pink. I love this bright and happy pink that stands out in a white bookcase as an accent color here in this inspiration picture. Impatient Pink would also work perfectly in a little girl’s room as a pop of fun color!
