Hi Laura I just painted my house crushed ice and I too saw the blue undertone. We do not have natural lighting and the lights we had were very bright so we decided to change the lighting in the house to a warm white and now I can’t see the blue undertone.
I’m glad that you were able to change out your lighting to get the results you wanted from the Crushed Ice. I appreciate you reaching out!! I know this information will also be helpful to others!
Thanks for all the info on Crushed Ice. I see no blue in Crushed Ice and it is my favorite! I used Repose in my last home and I often felt like it was just too dark for my taste.
Crushed ice seems to be just right!
We are moving to florida soon. The base color is crushed ice. I would like to paint a few accent walls with “beach colors” do you have any suggestions? Thanks
Thank you for reaching out! Crushed Ice has been one of my favorites lately. I have recommended it to several clients! For a beachy accent wall or two, I recommend Comfort Gray SW 6205. Comfort Gray is a blue-green/gray that is a perfect accent to Crushed Ice and creates a mood like serene waves from the beach. You may even want to use Sea Salt (one shade lighter than Comfort Gray) in a bathroom or bedroom to continue the beach vibe! Enjoy and keep me posted on your color transformation!
I have our cabinets and trim painted Alabaster…we had our house painted with Crushed Ice and everytime I look at it it looks blue 🙁 Any tips on how to avoid getting the blue feel? We paid for it to get done and I am struggling to LOVE the color. I also painted a few closet doors Tricorn and those also pull more of a blue to me.
I’m so sorry that you aren’t loving it! Crushed Ice does have a slight blue undertone. It may appear more gray in certain lights, but the blue is still slightly there. Try using warmer lighting or adding some warmer touches to your home to tone down the cooler blue tone. Keep me posted!
Hi Laura! I am wondering what the difference between SW Crushed Ice and SW On the Rocks is. They are so similar… Crushed Ice has a slightly higher LRV (at 66) than On the Rocks (at 62). When I look at them I am trying so hard to find the difference! I was going to go with Eider White until I saw it in a friends home, and I definitely saw shades of pink in it. Hoping to avoid this pink in one of these two colors.
You are right! They are very similar. On the Rocks is a tiny bit darker (not by much). Both are soft grays with a slight blue undertone. On the Rocks looks like it has less of a blue undertone. Test out some paint samples first to see how they look in your space.
Recently painted our home in Crushed Ice by Sherwin Williams. We want to re-paint the trim in white. The Crushed Ice is such a light grey that we would like a white that will offer a contrast to the light gray. I was super overwhelmed by all the different options for whites at the Sherwin Williams store.. My ceiling paint from SW just came in plain old “white” why can’t the trim paint just come in “white?”
My question is what color of white trim paint would you recommend with the SW Crushed Ice??
The whitest “true white” that SW offers is called Extra White and it is available in trim paint. That would give the best contrast against the Crushed Ice. Best of luck to you on your design projects and thank you for reaching out!
I’ve been painting for more than 10 years, for friends, neighbors and real estate agents. I recommend High Hide White. I have it my own house and love it.

Hey Ashley!
Glad it’s not just me that sees it! I have not heard from Laura yet but would love to hear her thoughts!
This makes me nervous because this is a color we are seriously considering for our new build.
Hi Kellina,
Definitely look at a few other options if you don’t want the blue undertone! I personally love it, but I know it’s not for everyone. 🙂
Best,
Laura
Hi Ashley,
Crushed Ice does have a slight blue undertone, so if you are looking for more of a true gray, there are some other options out there that I like!
Best,
Laura

Thank you for your input, Sue! I will have to check that color out. What paint brand is it?
