Hi I am considering functional gray on accent walls but need over all lighter gray for main part of the rooms. Any suggestions? It’s going with pickled cabinets to tone them down a bit in kitchen. Thanks
Thank you for your comment. However, it sounds like you are in need of more than I can offer by responding to your comment. Please check out my Interior Color Consultation packages in my shop.
Hi Laura! My entire house is painted in Worldly Gray and I’m looking to bring some depth to the combined living/dining room and my master bedroom. I’m not as keen on the colors further down the paint strip from Worldly Gray as they seem a bit brown/green to me (which admittedly is a struggle I have at times with Worldly Gray but I don’t want to repaint the entire house). I’m considering Functional Gray, it seems to still have some warm undertones. Do you think this would coordinate well? Thanks!
Thank you for reaching out! This is a great question. Undertones can be so tricky! Functional Gray is an option for a more saturated color to pair with Worldly Gray. I categorize Functional Gray as a greige because it is a gray, but still has some warmer tones to it. It is similar to Intellectual Gray, but has a teeny, tiny hint of violet that makes it a bit cooler. That being said, I would test it out to be sure that the mauve/violet tones don’t come out too strong in your lighting. Keep me posted and let me know how the sample turns out!
If you would like to go with more of a gray on the walls, I would go with a blue-gray. It will compliment the cherry wood trim and taupe carpet the best!
Let me know if I can help you narrow down your choices and find the right blue-gray through an Interior Color Consultation. 🙂
Hi Laura!
My husband and I are building a new home. We have selected Functional Gray for our cabinets and love them.
We chose Agreeable Gray for the walls but I am worried it won’t look nice or just be too gray.
I am starting to think I want white walls but we only have a choice between Antique White, Dover White, Divine White and Extra White. Extra White is what we already have for our trim.
Can you suggest a white to look nice with our Functional Gray cabinets?
Love the Functional Gray cabinet color! Dover White would be a soft creamy white that you could use on your walls and it would still coordinate with the Extra White trim. Or, if you want to go with a brighter white look, Extra White is beautiful on walls and trim. I have Extra White trim in my home and ended up painting the walls below my chair rail Extra White too and I love it as a wall color.
Hi Laura!
Thank you so much for your reply! At this point we are still torn between keeping Agreeable Gray and going with Extra White for the walls. I think Agreeable Gray would coordinate well but that Extra White would make everything so bright!

My living room walls are Functional Gray, and the kitchen walls are Gauntlet Gray. (Both of which you said would look good together!!! YAY!!!) It is an open concept area, so both colors are visible at the same time. What color would you recommend to add for a “pop” of color? Both rooms have white trim and medium walnut hardwood floors. Any suggestions for what color curtains would be best? Thank you!!!
Yay! So glad you are happy with Functional Gray and Gauntlet Gray. 🙂 I love the though of teal or aqua for a pop of color in the curtains/accessories. The room sounds beautiful and I would love to see pictures when you are finished!

We have taupe colored carpet & cherry wood trim in our bedroom. Can we paint our walls grey? What color would you recommend?
