Hi Laura,
I was scanning your color wheel & I have questions about the detail description of a color, for example, reclining green, what does the following mean: R183, G215, B191, hex value #b7d7bf, LVR63? They tell me nothing about the color or the undertone of the color. Is the base of the color white (what white?) & are the “R”, “G”, & “B” components that make up the final color? And what be the undertone of reclining green?
I’m particularly interested is understanding color undertones & I think to understand the make up of a color I need to understand how colors are compounded.
I really appreciate your help.
Thank you.

Great questions! So, the RGB code is the red, green and blue hues that they add to the paint. Sherwin-Williams starts every paint color with Extra White and adds the pigment via a computerized paint color machine. The LRV means the Light Reflective Value, or the amount of light that is reflected off the paint. The higher the number the more light is reflected or the lighter the color.
Undertones are tricky to understand and I honestly don’t go by the color number codes to figure it out. I start by comparing the color that I am looking at with other colors around it in the deck. I can tell immediately what the primary undertone of the color is by comparison. For instance, Reclining Green has a cooler blue undertone compared to colors like Baize Green (warmer yellow-green undertone). If it’s hard to tell the undertone in the lighter colors, keep going down the paint swatch to the darkest color to compare.
Let me know if I can help with anything else! I appreciate you reaching out.
