Hello Laura, I have a question. My living room is Whole Wheat, my adjacent hallway and my adjacent foyer are both Believable Buff. Both the hallway and the foyer lead to the kitchen and are adjacent to the kitchen. My kitchen cabinets are Antique White. Can I paint my kitchen Macadamia instead of Whole Wheat? The reason I painted my living room Whole Wheat is because my sofa has a lot of gold and I think the Whole Wheat is a better background for my sofa. However, in the kitchen, I would like less gold on the walls in order to contrast the Antique White well and make it pop a little more. So do you think Macadamia would be good for this? (I noticed your analogous color scheme for Whole Wheat includes Macadamia). Again, the adjacent hallway and foyer are Believable Buff and beyond that the living room is Whole Wheat. Thank you so much for your advice!
Great question! Yes, I do think that Macadamia would work. It is still warm enough to coordinate with Believable Buff and Whole Wheat and like you said is a good contrast with Antique White. Keep me posted on your progress!
Laura, thank you so much for your reply! I really appreciate it. I love your website. I live about 2 miles from a Sherwin Williams store, so I buy all of my paint there. I was thrilled to find your site because I am doing a lot of painting this summer, and choosing colors gets overwhelming. Thank you for your help! 🙂
I just “found” your site yesterday. Just moved into a new home last year and I want to change my front door color. My siding is James Hardie Timberbark and am thinking of changing to SW Hopsack. It is current SW Raisin. My accent color is White. I have a lovely front porch which I have By The Yard chairs there all year long in a beige/tan color. What are your thoughts?
Thank you for your comment. I would love to help you nail down a color for your front door! However it sounds like you are in need of more than I can offer by responding to your comment. Please check out my Exterior Color Consultation packages in my shop and select the Front Door package.
Hi Laura;
This page just taught me that I have an ANALOGOUS color scheme, ON PURPOSE! I can not decide which color I like the most. I like them all! The problem is I just can’t commit to any of these colors on the wall. What I learned a couple of days ago is to complement the flooring and that should be the best color for the space. Is that true? My flooring is a 70’s carpet light beige. It has buff in its undertones. I’m not ready to part with it just yet. I’m looking at Belivable Buff or Whole Wheat but it is for a north facing wall with no direct sunlight that shows a lot of blue and pink during different times of the day. Will I get the more gold, buff, or green when those blue rays come in?
So fun! I love that you have an analogous scheme. So, if you are keeping your beige carpet, it is true that you should take the undertone of the carpet in consideration when choosing a wall color. Either go with a color that has a beige undertone also, or go with a complementary color (blues, greens). The best way to see how your lighting will affect your colors is to get a sample to test out. Believable Buff and Whole Wheat have very golden undertones. I might try a beige like Softer Tan to update a bit while still staying in the warmer beige undertones. If you are still struggling, I would love to help you through a Color Consultation. I will be able to see your carpet undertone and find the right shade of beige for you.
