Hi Laura, I have Sherwin Williams Worldy Gray on my walls and SW Pure White for my baseboard & crown molding trim. I am considering using SW Alabaster or Greek Villa to paint my brick fireplace. This brick fireplace is against the wall. Do you think Alabaster or Greek Villa would work well next to Wordly Gray walls & Pure White trim? (The room is south facing with good natural light) Thanks for your thoughts.
Terri
I love Worldly Gray! Great choice on a wall color. I also love the painted brick look. To answer your question, I would go with Alabaster for your brick fireplace vs. Greek Villa. Both whites are very pretty, but Alabaster is a bit of a closer match to your Pure White trim. Alabaster is a soft white that has some warmth to it and will work next to the Worldly Gray walls and still coordinate with the Pure White trim. I would really love to see pictures when you finish painting! It is so fun to see the different paint can make.
I have painted alabaster kitchen cabinets and trim and possibly ceiling (?). I had to keep the existing gray/green, charcoal granite countertop. I am struggling with wall color. Right now looking at SW Light French Gray or SW Repose Gray. Any pointers on selecting The RIGHT one? Many colors bring out an unwanted gold hue in the granite and dull out the alabaster color. Any other suggestions? Thank you.
Thank you for your comment. However, it sounds like you are in need of more than I can offer by responding to your comment. Please check out my Interior Color Consultation packages in my shop.
Hi Laura, your website is sooo helpful! I have gutted and am currently remodeling my entire house. Can I use alabaster for my trim and cabinets with pearly white for my walls? Do these two colors work together? Should ceiling be ceiling white or same as trim?
Thank you so much! I’m honored that Rugh Design has been so helpful to you. To answer your question, I might consider going a bit more white for your trim and ceilings to create a bit more contrast with Pearly White walls (which I love!). The inspiration pictures that I have seen with Pearly White walls all have bright white ceilings and trim that really help to pop against the Pearly White walls. Pearly White and Alabaster are both greige off-whites, with Alabaster being a bit warmer than Pearly White. In order to really showcase Pearly White, a brighter white would be my first choice. I hope the renovation goes well and would love to hear what you end up deciding!
Would alabaster work in a north facing room (open concept) Kitchen, Living and dining all together. Cabinets are extra white. Should we use extra white for trim? Thx!
Thanks for reaching out! Yes, Alabaster should work just fine in a space with northern light exposure. The best way to know for sure in your space, however, is to test a sample. If you can, grab a small quart and test a large patch by painting a piece of cardboard. That way you can move it around the room to see how it looks in different spots at different times of the day.
Yes, I like to paint the trim the sample color as the cabinets (typically). Test out a sample of Alabaster in your space, but yes, it should work fine in a north facing room. There are also a few other off-whites out, so let me know if you need help selecting the right one through a Consult!
There are ton of options for whites to use with Alabaster, but it will depend on the undertone of your other selections. I have several soft creamy whites that I like along with some whites with a greige undertone. I would love to help you find the right one through a Color Consultation!
Thanks for reaching out and I hope to hear from you,
Laura
What color trim, doors and cabinets will go well with classic gray BM our house flooded in Harvey and i am going crazy trying to pick paints. I really like SW alabaster . But having a fare time with wall color since I’m wanting it to just be a touch of color on walls.
I’m so sorry about your home. I am from Houston and the Hurricane Harvey aftermath broke my heart. I love Alabaster and it is my go-to off-white for trim and cabinets. If you need further help, please let me know!! You can email me directly: laura@rughdesign.com
There are several options for whites to go with Abalone. I personally love Extra White as a true bright white to pop out wall colors. If you would like help finding the right color for your space, I would love to assist you through an Interior Color Consultation!
