I love your site, thank you for doing this! We just bought our first house after searching for one for 3 years. The only thing we didn’t like were the colors, except for the kitchen counters. Our kitchen cabinets are close to Copper Mountain. Our kitchen floor is close to Balanced Beige and our counters are close to Gray Matters. It seems a weird combination to me. It is an open concept and we love Gray Matters and it goes with everything else we have, but I am concerned using a color that close to our counters on the wall won’t look good. We have bought exactly 60 samples of paint so far (I just counted them). Please help! Should I go ahead with Gray Matters? Is there another color you could recommend? We are looking for a medium color for half of the house that includes the kitchen and a lighter color that coordinates with it for the rest. We think it would look best the way it’s laid out. The kitchen also has a lot of light, but comes from the north and east, which really brings out the undertones of the colors. A lot of what I’ve read says to use yellow in that light, but it clashes with the floor because it leans towards pinky beige. A lot of the warmer grays end up looking like the floor is running up the wall or looking pink or purple. Thank you for any help you could offer!
You are so welcome! I’m so sorry that this has been a tough process. Honestly, the best way I can help you is through an Interior Color Consultation. I can view pictures of your space and nail down the right color that will work with your current undertones. Gray Matters could work, but there may be a color that will work better that I can assess through the consultation. I want to help you get it right!
I am looking for a cabinet color that will compliment black floor, super-white quartzite (blue-grey quartzite) and the walls are Benjamin Moore silver Silver Chain (1472). It is for our powder room, so there is very little/ almost no natural light. I am open to suggestions for the walls and cabinets, but the floor and countertops are already purchased.
Gray Matters has more of a blue-gray undertone, but I always suggest trying a sample first to see how the color looks in your lighting. You could also try a med-dark toned gray color to coordinate with your selections. Let me know what you decide or if you need further help through a Color Consult!
I just selected this color for my client’s cabinets and viewed it in multiple lights. Every time I saw a cooler undertone. However, once we got it on the cabinets and in place… they look almost army green. It’s the first big color blunder I’ve had and was such a letdown. Definitely, test this one!!
Thank you for chiming in. Yikes on Gray Matters turning army green! That is always good to know how it may turn out in some people’s homes. I was helping a client recently and colors that typically look great in most homes, were getting strange undertones in her lighting. Colors can be tricky for sure!

Does Gray Matters have a green undertone?
