    Need complementary colors please. We are already pairing it with SW 7042 and SW 7043. We need an accent color for two walls and our designer picked SW 6116 Tatami Tan. Very concerned its too orange and dark. We are going for a softer look. Furniture is blue, browns, creams

      Tatami Tan is a bit too orange for my liking as well. If you are looking for a softer look, try Oyster Bay. I love this color and it will coordinate well with all colors you mentioned as well as your furnishings. Warm Stone could also be a good accent wall color if you want to stay more monochromatic.     Please help. . We have an outdoor shed. ,,the main color is lt grey with bronze brown roof and trim!!! White trimmed out windows. . We will have a screened in porch. . Would you do porch bronze also??? And what color for doors???

      Thanks for reaching out! I would match the roof and trim for the screened-in porch with the shed, as well as the white trimmed out windows. You could do your porch in a shade of gray to coordinate with the shed and have fun with the doors! I think you can do a different color there. Worldly Gray is one of my favorites!     I’m painting my husband’s office Intellectual Gray and not sure what color to paint the vaulted ceiling. Do I just paint it the same same white as the trim (probably going to be Alabaster or Greek Villa) or do I paint it something different? I feel like Intellectual Gray is too dark of a color to do the ceiling the same, but worried a white ceiling might look out of place on a vaulted ceiling. What do you think? Each of the two side vaults look to be half the width of the flat part of the ceiling. Also in case it makes a difference, will be repainting main area of house (open floor plan) soon and will most likely use one of the lighter colors like accessible beige on walls and ceiling because the family room and foyer are 2-story (17 feet) so we get a lot of light and the white ceilings look so stark to me. Office is on the second floor though so not part of the open plan on the first floor.

      Hi Cindi,

      Alabaster or Greek Villa is a good choice because they are slight off-white instead of super bright whites. If you want a color instead of white, you can go a few shades lighter than Intellectual Gray. My rule of thumb for ceilings is either white/off-white or a lighter shade of the color on the walls.

    We are building a new home. I would like the living room kitchen entry and dinning the same color. I would like the master bed and bath the same color. Leaning towards a gray color. I have two teen boys and their bath is like the same color. I like beiges and grays. Any thoughts or suggestions.

    Hey!
    I’m painting the exterior of my house using intellectual gray sherwin Williams- my shutters are cedar stained dark walnut, what’s a good color to make my door pop and complement the other colors?-
    It’s a solid metal door-

      I am personally a huge fan of blues. A teal or aqua colored door would work great with your colors. A bright white door would also really pop against the darker tones! If you would like more help coordinating the colors of your exterior, here is the link for my exterior consult package:

    I love your website! I recently bought a home where the primary color in the house is SW 9108 Malabar. I’m looking for an accent wall color for our fireplace wall. It has a two story cast stone fireplace on it. The room faces southwest, so colors tend to go much lighter. If I didn’t know better, I’d think the walls were actually Accessible Beige. I’d like to bring more gray into the home, so I’m leaning toward painting the accent wall Intellectual Gray. The trim color in the room will be Alabastar and the floor are a medium dark maple, with gray undertones. Thanks for any thoughts you may have!

      I would say that Intellectual Gray has a slight brownish undertone, not so much taupe though. I should read mainly as a warmer gray. Let me know if you need more help through an Interior Color Consultation.

    Pretty much my entire house is painted Intellectual Gray. We are looking to paint our kitchen cabinets. And I was originally thinking a creamy white, but now I think I’m leaning towards a light grey. Can you recommend a couple that won’t clash up against our wall color.

      Intellectual Gray is a great color! I always like to go with more of a classic kitchen look with white cabinets. My favorite go-to white is Extra White by SW. 🙂 If you want to go with a light gray, try going several shades lighter than Intellectual Gray to keep with the same undertone.

    Have blues, grays, tans, brown’s running through our kitchen and living room. Would like to use a color called Intelligual Gray, but would like an accent wall color. What would you suggest?

      Thanks for reaching out! A general rule of thumb that I use for accent walls, if you want to stay within the same tones, is to go a few shades darker than the overall wall color. The best way I can help you find the right accent color is by viewing your current space with your selections/colors through an Interior Color Consultation.     Hi,

    I’m having my kitchen cabinets painted BM White Dove, trim BM Decorator’s white, and center island a gray. Surrounding walls will be SW Worldly Gray. All paint colors were suggested by a decorator. For the center island, she suggested SW Intellectual Gray or SW Anonymous Gray. Which one of these do you suggest with the other colors I listed that will be used? Or do you have a different gray suggestion? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I’m a nurse, and not good with this stuff, and, there are a MILLION grays out there! Thanks, in advance, for your help!!

      Thanks for reaching out! To answer your question, I like both options, but they may depend on your natural light. If you don’t have a ton of windows or natural light, Intellectual Gray could get kind of dark. You may even want to go as light as Worldly Gray (one shade lighter than Amazing Gray) and use Intellectual Gray for an accent wall. If you want to go with Amazing Gray instead, I like to use darker blue-grays or green-grays for accent walls. Web Gray or Grizzle Gray are two options that would work and still give you the “Man Cave/Condo” kind of feel. Let me know which direction you end up going!
