I’m considering Proper Grey for my Kitchen and adjoining living area. I’m going to use white for ceiling and trim. My husband feels it’s too dark. Therefore, I’m also considering Essential Grey. I have painted samples on different walls to see it in different light and angles. I’m at a loss. I don’t want a grey that looks blue or green. I’ve tried putting tile, granite & cabinet samples next to them. I’m ready to just move rather than think about this anymore ?.
I’m so sorry that you have been struggling with this! Paint can be so tricky, especially when you are trying to discern the undertones and if the color is the right depth (not too dark, etc.). For a reference point, I categorize Proper Gray (and Essential Gray) as grays that have a slight mauve-lavender undertone. If you are looking for more of a true gray that doesn’t have a blue, green or purple undertone, consider Worldly Gray or even Agreeable Gray for something a tiny bit warmer. If you sample both of these and still need help, please reach out for a Color Consultation . I would love to help you find the right color for your space!
Hello! Looking for some input on wall color. We are painting master bath and bedroom. We removed carpet and had hardwood installed in bedroom. The color is a mix of chestnut and spice. We already painted the bathroom Proper Gray and need a color for the bedroom. The Proper Gray turned out darker with purple tones just as I am reading other comments here. I want to go lighter in the bedroom and would love some input…….

I just painted my bedroom Proper Gray and I absolutely love it! It’s very inviting and has a warm, cozy feeling. I’m in the market for a new bed. What color would you suggest? I was thinking of doing a distressed white/ivory. Do you think that will work? Thank you.
Thanks for reaching out! I’m so glad that you are loving Proper Gray. 🙂 Yes, I love the idea of doing a distressed white or ivory headboard/bed frame. I am picturing beautiful soft white bedding with some pattern in the accent pillows for a really pretty master bedroom! I would love to see the finished results!
I’m considering proper gray for the exterior of my home. I have a small Tudor style cottage. My question is what would be a good color for the trim? I also have concrete front steps and I haven’t the slightest clue which color to paint those. I’d like to go a dark color for those but I’m just not sure. Any help or other suggestetions would be appreciated.
I am using proper gray in my basement on the walls. We are thinking we are going to go with the painted floor and area rugs route. I was thinking of using Iced Mocha for the floor color. Any opinions on how that would work and do you think it would clash. Thank you for your input on this matter.
Thanks for reaching out! Proper Gray has more of a purple undertone and Iced Mocha has a gold/tan undertone. I would consider going with a floor color that has more of the gray undertones to coordinate better. You might even use the darkest shade on the Proper Gray color swatch. Sherwin-Williams has a line of stained floor options too!
I just painted my master bedroom in this color. I was not expecting it to look quite as purple, but it is a great color and I can do a lot with it. It is not too dark or too light and makes my white furniture POP!
