First of all, I have to say that you are the most helpful post I have found on all of Pinterest when it comes to paint colors. Thank you!!! I am struggling with repainting my entire house some updated light colors. I think Accessible Beige is great for my dining room and would like Sea Salt in my bedroom. My house is very open with an atrium entry and living room that has 23′ tall walls. The fireplace is two-story greyish brick. I would like to paint my golden oak cabinets but Im not comfy with white because my granite is Baltic brown. I cannot afford to replace them. Any suggestions for cabinet colors?
Thank you SO much! Your kind words mean a lot. 🙂 I wrote a post detailing my top whites and their undertones to make it easier to find the right white. If you still need help finding the right color, I would love to help through a Color Consultation!
Hi, I am painting the outside of my stucco house. We are in Florida. I love Sea Salt and was wondering if it would look good as the exterior color of my house? We face east if that matters. I love this color. Love reading the questions and answers. I learn helpful things from it.
Thanks so much! I do like Sea Salt for an exterior color, especially for a Florida home! Let me know if I can help with anything else through an Exterior Color Consultation.
Hi Laura
I just painted my small beach condo living room sea salt. Very happy with how it turned out. The floors are a gray laminate. The kitchen is small and is open into the living room. The counter tops are a granite beige black brown speckled (best way to describe) with Black cabinets. The entire space is clam and neutral tones with the color sea salt except for the black cabinets. Want to paint them a color that will tie into the rest of the space. What do you recommend?
I love the look of bright white cabinets, especially with Sea Salt. It’s the perfect beach condo look! I would love to help you find the right white through an Interior Color Consultation:
Hi Laura,
My house is small and faced on east side. I have warm wood floors and maple cabinets and cheery color sofas. I read in your website, select either blue or green paints for east facing houses. I like seasalt, but i did sample on wall, it looks more on blue on morning light. Can I go head with seasalt color on whole down stairs? or do you want to separate the color in family room and kitchen? or otherwise Are you going to suggest any other color instead of sea salt? Please help me?
Sea Salt is a beautiful color, but I have found that it works best for rooms like bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry rooms and other specialized rooms. I tend to go with more neutral colors in open areas of the home. I have a few gray-blue color that would work well for your open layout and would love to help you find the right one through an Interior Color Consultation:
I just painted my bathroom Sea Salt and it looks very blue!I. I still need to put the blinds up as it’s very bright in there, so I’m hoping it will calm down.
Yes, Sea Salt is definitely a Blue-Green color that can turn more blue or more green (or even gray!) depending on your design elements and your lighting. I hope it turns out to be the color that you had in mind for your space. If you need more help, please feel free to contact me for a Color Consultation. I’m happy to assist you to find the perfect color!
Sea Salt is an amazing morphing color. It’s gray with green undertones. It can change throughout the day depending on the light. Try painting large pieces of paper and look at it in different areas of your room. I even put a swatch against my white ceiling & got a different color than my wall. Play with it a little then just go for it. It’s beautiful.
ok. i wrote weird on my post. sea salt looks very grey in my lower living room whixh has lots of artificial light and windows. is that cause the chip doesnt show the true color? it look grey!!!
I agree with Kat! It can change depending on your lighting, but I consider it a green-gray. Try it on a larger sample and move it around the room to get a good feel for how it looks in your space with your lighting at different times of the day. I love Sea Salt and definitely recommend it! Thanks Kat for chiming in! Spot on advice. 🙂
If you are still having trouble, I would love to help you via a Color Consultation. Thanks so much for reaching out!
my sea salt paint chip looks very grey ib mybloer living room/kitchenette. has lots of windowa and artificial light. will it look less grey once i paint? the chip is very grey in there?
I love the idea of painting my kitchen in sea salt but I’m struggling with a cabinet color. The room is spacious with tons of cabinets and natural light so I feel like it could also handle comfort gray and still look light and bright. The floor and backsplash are a warm beige/brown tumbled tile with dark granite countertops that are flecked with beige, black and copper. The kitchen opens to the family room which is painted functional grey. I like the idea of dark or mid-tone cabinets, possibly grey or greige. Can you recommend a cabinet color that would “pop” against sea salt or comfort gray but be warm and neutral enough to complement the warm accents in the kitchen and functional grey of the family room?
Good choice on wall color! It’s definitely one of my favorites. If you are going for a dark to mid-tone cabinet color, I suggest trying Virtual Taupe or Griffin. They are both warmer greige neutrals that will go with both the beige tones and the Functional Gray color in the family room. Get some samples and test them out first, but they would both look great against the Sea Salt! Let me know what you end up deciding!
I just started painting my kitchen cabinets sea salt. It wasn’t planned. I just felt drawn to it. I love it! But now the dilemma of what to paint my rough textured walls to coordinate but not compete with the sea salt. I’ve looked at both repose and elder white as a possibility, with pure white chair rail and trim, & maybe white subway tile backsplash. With a big dose of natural light bouncing around at the kitchen nook area, I cannot go any darker. What do you suggest?
Good choice for your cabinet color! I love Sea Salt and it’s next on my list of colors to highlight, so stay tuned! 🙂 Repose Gray is a good option to coordinate with Sea Salt and the Pure White chair rail/trim. I also like Drift of Mist if you need a lighter color with your lighting. I suggest getting some samples of each to test out to see what looks best in your space next to the Sea Salt cabinets.
I would love to know what you end up choosing! If you need further help, please feel free to contact me for a Color Consultation. Thank you for reaching out!
Oh, I should check if there is one nearby. Lowes has changed all their number codes with the newer HGTV line. Some of the colors cannot be found in the computer anymore. We went thru some of the old books for a swatch, but was like looking for a needle in a haystack. I’ll see about a SW store.

Thoughts on sea salt as a kitchen color? I’ve just seen it used in bath and bedrooms, but was wanting something with a little color in the kitchen besides white and gray.
Sea Salt is a gorgeous color! I do believe, however, that it largely depends on your lighting and space. It can look very blue in some lighting, so I would just make sure it is the shade that will work for your kitchen. Get a sample and test it out to see how it looks! I do like the thought of adding some color in the kitchen, especially if you have neutral selections in your kitchen. Let me know if I can answer any more questions or help further!
I have medium cherry with black glaze cabinet with dark granite counter top. My floor looks like reclaimed wood (lighter brown tones)and the shower and rub surround are beige. I am thinking of using sea salt as my paint color orzo u think I should go with a beige paint. Ian scared beige is to boring
First of all, please forgive me for my delay in sending a reply! I am playing catch up on comments that I missed. I would definitely try Sea Salt. Everything sounds very neutral in your bathroom and the cool tone of Sea Salt will help to even tone down some of the warm browns for a nice contrast. I love Sea Salt in bathrooms! It creates such a nice soothing spa-feel. Get a sample to see how it looks first! Let me know if you have more questions or need further help. Thanks again for reaching out!
[…] Sea Salt, Comfort Gray & Oyster Bay continue to be some of my top go-to soft blues that can quickly transform your space from blah to spa. My Houston client has these 3 colors all over her home and I just love how it turned out. She used Kilim Beige for her all-over wall color and Antique White for her trim. […]
