The Rugh Design Color Wheel
To recap, we have been working on adding ALL of the Sherwin-Williams paint colors to the Rugh Design Color Wheel. We plan to have all 1700 colors up by the end of 2018 and each week we will release 25 new colors with my hand picked color schemes. In addition to the new 25 colors a week I will hightlight 1 color from Sherwin-Williams that I personally love or stands out.
Going forward you can find all of our Color Wheel Update posts here.
Featured Color: Antique White SW 6119
I have been highlighting a lot of grays, greiges and whites/off-whites in my Color Wheel Featured Color posts. I know I keep saying this, but it’s true: this is not on accident! These are the colors that I get the most questions on and the colors that are currently highly sought after for interior (and exterior) paint colors. My heart is to help empower you (my readers!) to understand color and to help you make the best choices for your homes. I feel that I can do this through writing posts that feature colors that give the tools and information needed to get started. Of course, if you are still stuck or need help, I am always here for questions and Color Consultations!
This week, I wanted to focus on Antique White SW 6119. A few weeks ago I highlighted Creamy SW 7012 and within the post, I outlined the Sherwin-Williams whites with a comparison between the undertones (cool to warm). Creamy was the warmest off-white on my chart, but this week, Antique White takes its place as an even warmer off-white. Antique White is a soft and warm off-white that has a yellow-beige undertone, which makes it one of the off-whites that I specify when clients have a warmer palette.
One of my first times to use Antique White was on a special project that I worked on with my Mother-in-Law. They were working on a major kitchen renovation and my MIL (Betty) wanted my input and help putting the colors and selections together. She likes warmer colors and has a unique collection of antique furniture pieces. I wanted her kitchen to reflect her design aesthetic and to coordinate with her current selections.
We decided to paint her outdated oak 80’s kitchen cabinets in Antique White and then picked a gorgeous quartz countertop, natural stone backsplash and floor tile to coordinate and accentuate the Antique White cabinets. For some interest, we painted the kitchen island in Quietude, a gorgeous blue-green that pops out gorgeously with the Antique White.
We painted her walls in the kitchen Nomadic Desert and it is the perfect contrast against the Antique White cabinets and trim. I love how warm and cozy her kitchen has become. Our family gathers in there during weekend visits and holidays. The warmth of the colors, featuring Antique White are the reason that the kitchen is the hub for congregating together.
Okay, now that you have a basis for Antique White, check out my Pinterest gallery for some inspiration. See below and let me know which one you like the most. If you have your own pictures, send them to me and I will post them! Additionally, if Antique White does sound intriguing and you want see what other colors and schemes could coordinate with it then check out the color schemes I believe will coordinate nicely with it.
Where to use Antique White SW 6119
I mentioned Betty’s kitchen earlier with the Antique White for the cabinets, but I also love Antique White as a wall color. If you have a space that has selections that have more of a yellow-beige undertone, Antique White could be just for you. As pictured below, a monochromatic interior scheme with creams and whites is a perfect opportunity to use Antique White.
I love this kitchen with a lighter off-white on the cabinets and Antique White on the walls for a warm and welcoming space. The floors are a golden honey oak and the countertops and backsplash add to the creamy white yumminess in here.
I showed some pictures of Antique White on Betty’s cabinets above, but I wanted to show a another way to use Antique White on woodwork. We all know the farmhouse look is currently going strong. One way to add the “antiqued” and distressed look to your cabinets or built-ins, is to use a glaze on top of the Antique White. A nice umber-brown glaze creates some contrast against the cream and adds some dimension to accomplish the antique look.
Antique White also translates over nicely on exteriors. It’s goes lighter on exteriors and comes out looking more like a warm white without the yellow-beige undertone. I love Antique White on these shutters for a creamy and fresh look for this exterior.

The Best of the Rest
Antique White had the spotlight, but I also wanted to highlight a color from the Color Wheel update, Eros Pink SW 6860. Oh my, I love this bright and happy color! I can’t show it to my girls because I think they will want to paint their whole room this color. Check out how Sarah Richardson from HGTV used Eros Pink below. She paired it perfectly with a green apple color to compliment the Eros Pink and make it pop out more, if that’s even possible! Try this gorgeous hot pink as an accent wall in a bedroom, office or kid’s room. I also love the thought of painting a piece of furniture in Eros Pink for unique look. Lots of options!
