The Rugh Design Color Wheel
To recap, we have been working on adding ALL of the Sherwin-Williams paint colors to the Rugh Design Color Wheel. We plan to have all 1700 colors up by the end of 2018 and each week we will release 25 new colors with my hand picked color schemes. In addition to the new 25 colors a week I will hightlight 1 color from Sherwin-Williams that I personally love or stands out.
Most recently we have highlighted Mindful Gray (cooler greige), Perfect Greige (warm greige with slight mauve undertone), Antique White (warm off-white with yellow-beige undertone) and Pussywillow (gray with slight blue undertone).
Going forward you can find all of our Color Wheel Update posts here.
Featured Color: Kilim Beige SW 6106
I have been highlighting a lot of grays, greiges and whites/off-whites in my Color Wheel Featured Color posts. That being said, I wanted to focus on a color that is more on the beige side of the color wheel. I’ll be honest that I haven’t been specifying warmer beiges a lot lately, but that doesn’t mean that I never do. It just so happens that the gray trend is still going pretty strong and more of my clients are going away from the Tuscan trend with more brown-tones that were around before the gray trend.
However, a few months ago, I had a client who was building a ranch home in the Hill Country. They wanted a warmer beige for the overall main wall color to compliment the ranch style selections (golden beige granite, wood stained cabinets, etc.). That being said, I know that there are still people out there that want a warmer beige or need a warmer beige because of their selections. My main goal in highlighting Kilim Beige was to showcase a warm neutral that may work best in your space with the flooring, granite, backsplash and/or furniture.
Kilim Beige is a warm beige that is right in between a golden-yellow beige and a caramel beige. It’s not too yellow-toned and not too orange-toned either. I would say that it is a “coffee with cream” color, which is probably why one of the colors on the same paint swatch is called “Latte.” I specified Kilim Beige a ton when I was selecting paint for model homes and I also chose it for my in-law’s house as the main overall color when they were renovating. Their kitchen is in Nomadic Desert (one shade darker than Kilim Beige) with the cabinets in Antique White, which I highlighted a few weeks ago in my Antique White post.

Where to use Kilim Beige
Kilim Beige is a great color for a soft overall neutral, especially if you have selections that tend towards the warmer brown/beige tones. It goes especially well with medium wood flooring and tile that have beige, brown and cream tones in them. What I love the most about Kilim Beige is that it doesn’t get a yellow undertone. It’s a lovely and earthy cocoa color that can bring warmth and character to a home.
My favorite way to accent with Kilim Beige is by using soft blues and blue-greens. I love the balance of warm and cool together and they just flat out compliment each other well! Sea Salt, Quietude, Comfort Gray and Rain are a few of my favorite blues and blue-greens that pair very nicely with Kilim Beige. Try using them in adjacent rooms with Kilim Beige as the main wall color or as just as accent colors picked up in pillows and drapery.
I have already mentioned my in-laws house, but I want to detail out a possible color palette with Kilim Beige (and some of the blue-greens that I mentioned earlier) using their home as an example. Kilim Beige is the main overall paint color with Antique White on cabinets, trim and doors. Nomadic Desert is in the kitchen and breakfast nook with a pop of color on the island in Quietude.
The dining room has Quietude again below the chair rail with Kilim Beige above. In the laundry room and master bathroom Sea Salt makes a debut as a soothing and spa-like compliment to Kilim Beige. For a nice accent in the master bedroom, Comfort Gray is on the headboard wall and the remaining walls are Kilim Beige. All of the paneled walls in the Study are painted Comfort Gray to help tie in the blue-green color in other areas of the home.
Now that you have a good idea of an interior color scheme for Kilim Beige, I also wanted to showcase an exterior inspiration picture. As I always mention, colors on exteriors get significantly lighter. So, think of Kilim Beige as more of a cream with a tad of coffee color on exteriors. Ha! Kilim Beige works well as a main body color with darker trim accent colors or as a trim color with a darker main body color.

The Best of the Rest
Kilim Beige had the spotlight, but I also wanted to highlight a color from the Color Wheel update, Oceanside SW 6496. Oceanside just happens to be the Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year for 2018. Well, I love blues and greens, so Oceanside is the perfect marriage of color for me. It’s a gorgeous saturated blue-green that is a perfect statement color. I love it here styled by West Elm and paired with a warm rustic wood chest for a perfect compliment!
