Color Wheel Update: Oyster Bay

Oyster Bay SW 6206 Monochromatic Color Scheme

The Rugh Design Color Wheel

To recap, we have been working on adding ALL of the Sherwin-Williams paint colors to the Rugh Design Color Wheel. Our plan to have all 1700 colors up by the end of 2018 is on track and with this post we are about at the half way point. Which means that we “only” have about 400 more colors to go! We will continue to release 25 new colors with my hand picked color schemes each week. In addition to the new 25 colors a week I will highlight 1 color from Sherwin-Williams that I personally love or stands out.

Oyster Bay SW 6206

Featured Color: Oyster Bay SW 6206

This week I wanted to focus on a color that I ADORE: Oyster Bay. It is in the same color family as Sea Salt, a super popular and beloved favorite green-blue with a hint of gray. Oyster Bay is two shades darker than Sea Salt, but is still considered medium toned and not super dark by any means.

My favorite thing about this color (and really this entire color family) is that it provides the spa-like green/blue feel without being too bright. The hint of gray in the undertone helps to dull it down in a positive way. I don’t think an electric green-blue is going to feel very soothing in a master bedroom retreat!

Okay, now that you have a basis for Oyster Bay, check out my Pinterest gallery for some inspiration. See below and let me know which one you like the most. If you have your own pictures, send them to me and I will post them! Also, check the Oyster Bay color scheme page for my hand pick color schemes!

Where to use Oyster Bay SW 6206

Now, for some ways to incorporate Oyster Bay in your interior. Speaking of master bedroom retreats, one of my favorite ways to use Oyster Bay is in bedrooms. I am in love with this master bedroom below that has creams and grays accented with the Oyster Bay to create a perfect oasis to relax in at the end of the day. The white trim pairs well with Oyster Bay for some contrast and ties back to the creamy white upholstered headboard.

I sometimes hesitate to specify a medium toned color in an open layout area unless there is good natural light. However, Oyster Bay works beautifully in this entry and dining room area. Again, white trim pops against the Oyster Bay along with some soft greige accents for the dining chairs and rug.

I do like using more saturated and fun colors in powder bathrooms and Oyster Bay is an ideal color to try. Another way to spice up a powder bath is by using a painted beadboard. The powder bath below is a lovely example of both Oyster Bay and white beadboard in a powder bath. Sea Salt is one of my top go-to soothing colors for bathrooms, so it’s no surprise that Oyster Bay is flawless in this powder bath.

Not only does Oyster Bay work as a wall color, it is SO pretty as a cabinet color. Just like powder bathrooms, I like to do something fun in laundry rooms too. Both are small areas that are typically tucked away and not visible from open layouts. So, I take the opportunity to go all out and do a bold color or something different like zebra wallpaper (kidding, but actually it would be so fun!) in powder bathrooms and/or laundry rooms.

What better way to incorporate Oyster Bay on an exterior than on a beach house? It’s the quintessential beachy green-blue color! I love how the house below has Oyster Bay on the upper half, a light gray on the lower half and bright white trim. Not only is Oyster Bay gorgeous as an accent on the main body of exteriors, it looks stunning as a front door color as well.

The Best of the Rest

Oyster Bay had the spotlight, but I also wanted to highlight a color from the Color Wheel update, Neighborly Peach. I adore this soft peach color and I love how it is used here in this master bedroom as the ceiling color. Neighborly Peach would also be perfect in a nursery or kid’s room with added colors and textures to add whimsy and fun.
