Color Wheel Update: Lazy Gray

Lazy Gray Monochromatic Color Scheme

The Rugh Design Color Wheel

To recap, we have been working on adding ALL of the Sherwin-Williams paint colors to the Rugh Design Color Wheel. Our plan to have all 1700 colors up by the end of 2018 is on track and with this post we are about at the half way point. Which means that we “only” have about 300 more colors to go! We will continue to release 25 new colors with my hand picked color schemes each week. In addition to the new 25 colors a week I will highlight 1 color from Sherwin-Williams that I personally love or stands out.

Recently, we have highlighted Dover White (warm white), Colonnade Gray (warm gray), Oyster Bay (green/blue-gray) and Anew Gray (warm greige).

Going forward you can find all of our Color Wheel Update posts here.

Lazy Gray SW 6254

Featured Color: Lazy Gray SW 6254

I picked Lazy Gray to highlight this week because I just love blue-grays. Plain and simple. Depending on the lighting, Lazy Gray can look more blue or more gray. If you are looking for more of a true gray, steer clear of Lazy Gray because it definitely has a blue undertone, which I personally love!

I like that Lazy Gray is a bump up from the lightest shade on the paint swatch (Olympus White) for a bit more saturation and depth of color. Lazy Gray is a cooler color, but doesn’t appear too cold and sterile. It is a great color to open up spaces that are smaller and creates a soothing feel by nature because of the blue undertone.

My favorite thing about Lazy Gray is how the gray in it helps the blue undertone not feel too “baby blue.” This makes Lazy Gray a perfect all over color or a color for any individual room in the house for that matter!

Okay, now that you have a basis for Lazy Gray, check out my Pinterest gallery for some inspiration. See below and let me know which one you like the most. If you have your own pictures, send them to me and I will post them! Also, check the Lazy Gray color scheme page for my hand pick color schemes!

Where to use Lazy Gray SW 6254

Lazy Gray works well as an overall main paint color, especially in homes where an open and relaxing feel is the goal. Blue is a cooler color and helps to create spaciousness while at the same time creating a soothing feel. Honey oak floors help to warm up the space in the inspiration picture below and are a perfect texture and compliment against the Lazy Gray wall color.

Since cooler colors automatically lead to tranquil environments, Lazy Gray works perfectly in bathrooms. I tend to love a good spa-like feel in a bathroom and blues are spot on to produce this backdrop. Lazy Gray on the walls paired with white cabinets, trim and backsplash tile model this flawlessly! The look is clean, bright and soothing all at the same time.

Bedrooms are another interior space that Lazy Gray works well in for my favored relaxing feel. I mean, if any room should feel relaxing, it should be the bedroom! I love Lazy Gray pictured here in a bedroom with soft bedding and a few furniture pieces that help to warm up the space. Artwork and other accessories can help to add some contrast and color to a backdrop of Lazy Gray, really in any space.

Not only does Lazy Gray work well in interiors, it also translates beautifully on exteriors. Like on all exteriors, Lazy Gray lightens up quite a bit, so I like the thought of pairing it with a darker trim color or a brighter white trim similar to the inspiration picture. Lazy Gray could also work as a front door color with a darker main body color for some contrast.

The Best of the Rest

Lazy Gray had the spotlight, but I also wanted to highlight a color from the Color Wheel update, Dewberry. Deeper shades of purple have actually been trending in the color world. In fact, Pantone declared a dark purple color as their color of the year. I detailed some top front door colors on a post several months ago, but I didn’t have a section for purple. So I was happy to find a gorgeous saturated purple front door in Dewberry. I love the color Dewberry for an unexpected pop of color paired with a neutral main body color!
