The Rugh Design Color Wheel
To recap, we have been working on adding ALL of the Sherwin-Williams paint colors to the Rugh Design Color Wheel. Our plan was to have all 1700 colors up by the end of 2018, but it is looking more and more that we will have all colors up by the end of the Summer! And by end of the Summer, what I really mean is next week! After today’s post we only have about 30 colors to go!
Recently, we have highlighted Gauntlet Gray (dark gray-blue), Rainwashed (soft blue-green), Eider White (cool white), Silver Strand (soft blue-green with hint of gray) and Black Fox (dark charcoal gray).
Going forward you can find all of our Color Wheel Update posts here.
Featured Color: Naval SW 6244
This week I am focusing in on my favorite navy color: Naval. Navy blue can be tricky because there are some navy colors out there that can get too “bright blue” looking. Trust me, I made this mistake the hard way when I was specifying colors for model homes and picked a navy that was way too bright. Eek! That is when I found Naval and I haven’t looked back since for a go-to navy blue.
I primarily specify Naval for accent walls, front doors and powder bathrooms. But that is not the only place to use Naval. It’s also gorgeous on cabinets and styled properly can be really nice to use on all walls in an office, dining room or bedroom.
Okay, now that you have a basis for Naval, check out my Pinterest gallery for some inspiration. See below and let me know which one you like the most. If you have your own pictures, send them to me and I will post them! Also, check the Naval color scheme page for my hand-picked color schemes!
Where to use Naval SW 6244
I love Naval so much that I encouraged my Mom to paint the headboard wall in her master bedroom in Naval. Not only did my Mom’s master bedroom turn out gorgeous, the bedroom pictured below is a picture perfect example of using Naval as an accent wall. The creamy drapes and headboard offset the saturation of the Naval exquisitely!
Ideally, I aim for contrasting Naval with white trim and accents. It just creates such a crisp and clean look! This entry pictured is no exception. The white trim on the staircase and the sheer white drapes are the perfect pairing with Naval. I also love the wall art that pops out against the navy.
Naval is so pretty on these cabinets in the laundry room. Again, white wins paired with Naval! The shiplap walls are perfection with the Naval cabinetry. The laundry room is a great place to try out bold colors on cabinets and to have fun on the walls (shiplap). This is a beautiful design!
Like I mentioned, Naval is perfect for exterior front doors. In fact, I featured navy as a front door color, in my 7 Best Front Door Colors for 2018 post several months ago. Naval not only looks great as a front door color in the inspiration picture below, it also works on the shutters to tie the exterior together. My favorite little detail is the “Hello” decal that pops out against the Naval door with a friendly little note to those entering the house.
You can create this look too! The white “Hello” front door vinyl decal used in the picture is sold by Word Factory Design and is available on Amazon. Purchase the decal here. Please note, this is an affiliate link.

The Best of the Rest
Naval had the spotlight, but I also wanted to highlight a color from the Color Wheel update, Ruby Shade. I actually highlighted the main color in this little girl’s room (Wallflower) not that long ago. But, this room is so cute!! The accent wall is in Ruby Shade and it ties in the darker pink accents in the rug and pillow. If you are looking for inspiration for your daughter’s room, look no further!

I can’t find Naval on the SW website, app, anywhere! Can you help me?
Hi Jenn.
Not sure which app you are using but here is Sherwin-Williams Naval page.
Laura’s hand picked color schemes for Naval.
Thanks!
We want to do naval in our master bedroom accent wall. We are having trouble picking a white that goes well with it. Any advice?
What did you end up going with? In my master (mistress) bedroom which is south-facing, I chose Pure White to go with Naval and I love it. Not too stark, but milky, the tiniest bit warm. Looks delish.
Hi Clarissa!
Thank you for your comment. However, it sounds like you are in need of more than I can offer by responding to your comment. Please check out my Interior Color Consultation packages in my shop and select the Accent Wall package.
I would love to be your color consultant!

My husband and I selected Naval for our shutters and doors based on this blog post. We had gone around and around and thought we would go with green. However, when I saw this color, we decided to make the leap to blue. We absolutely love it! Thank you for sharing your expertise with the world wide web.
