Warm & Cool Colors Picking the Best Paint Color Option for your Space

cool_warm_featureWe all have our preferences in regards to warm and cool colors, especially when it comes to which shades of paint to use in our homes. What you may not know, however, is how these decisions can affect your space and how important it can be. These are the kinds of color questions that have come up and continue to come up and continue to come up with clients of mine (both online and in person)…

In Love with Lattice

e_kitchen00004During several of my recent Interior Color Consultations, I have had the opportunity to talk about what color my personal home is painted. I love my interior paint color and wanted to share the story of how I picked it! When we first moved into our house in 2011, I was thrilled be a homeowner, but I was not so thrilled with the interior paint color. The entire open layout was painted a basic “builder beige” color with a yellow undertone…

Sea Salt Review

HC 1Sea Salt really is just as lovely as it sounds. I do believe that it does deserve all the praise and publicity that it gets. Sea Salt is the perfect soft blue-green color, with hints of gray, that I simply adore. Most of all I recommend Sea Salt for spaces where the goal is a peaceful environment. Therefore master bedrooms and bathrooms are the areas that I most often suggest…

Balanced Beige Review

Balanced Beige with China Doll stripesI have been looking forward to this post for awhile. We have been profiling the Sherwin-Williams Color of the Month for several months now, but have been working on releasing our own “Featured Color” with some of my favorite paint colors (also from Sherwin-Williams). So, without further ado, it pleases me to announce the first official Rugh Design Featured Color: Balanced Beige! I love this…

Limón Fresco

limonfresco_coverimg2 scaledHere we are in June 2016 and the Sherwin-Williams Color of the Month is Limón Fresco! Limón Fresco is a newer color that SW has recently released and I’ll be honest, I had a tiny panic attack when I found out the COTM was a bright lime/lemon color. “What in the world am I going to do with another bright and saturated color,” I thought. Well, it actually ended up being a unique design challenge to pair up Limón Fresco with monochromatic, analogous, triad and complementary color schemes and to think outside the box with how to use the it on the walls and trim. It was fun and I hope you feel as inspired as I did with with the results! First, for a complementary color scheme, I put together Limón Fresco and Urbane Bronze…

Caviar

SW Fashionable Gray with SW CaviarWelcome back for the Sherwin Williams Color of the Month Review for May! I was anticipating the color for this month and was pleased to find out it was Caviar, a gorgeous black color. On the wall it has more of a soft almost velvet-like feel versus a super dark black. I did a post awhile back on my go-to black and white paint colors and I’ve been secretly wanting to implement a design using…

Honey Bees

JC 02 1 scaledHoney Bees is the color of the month for April. It’s a bright sunny yellow that used in the right space creates a cheerful and inviting environment. I honestly struggled a little bit with this color at first because it is pretty saturated. Used in a space with not much natural light, it gets really bright. My tendency with colors like these is to focus them in areas with either tons of natural light (Sunrooms, Kitchens) or in Kid-friendly areas where a more saturated…

The Grass is Always Greener

green featured scaledOh, how I love the color green! I especially love how a room painted green feels: peaceful, restful and fresh. Used in the right way, a room can instantly be transformed into a serene environment with a natural and organic feel. Green is a cooler color, so it can also create a sense of openness and make a space feel more airy. I personally have green in my home as an accent color and even used…

Mellow Yellow

yellow featured scaledAs I’ve been thinking about what paint colors to post about next, yellow crossed my mind. Sunny, warm, happy and bright are the words I think of when I consider the color yellow. I’ve had several clients who have gravitated towards warm yellows and creams and have asked me which yellow paint colors I recommend. I do have some favorites and thought that I would share in case yellow is the next paint color of choice for your current space. Pops of yellow are being used more…

Black & White

blackwhite featured scaledI know I have mentioned in past posts that I love working with Sherwin-Williams paint colors. The pricing is comparable and their products are top-quality with many green-friendly options (which I personally love being a Mom of three littles). Not to mention, their color options are endless. Don’t get me wrong, there are tons of great paint color choices out there, but I feel most comfortable with Sherwin-Williams since I have seen…

Thanksgiving Place Setting Designs

thanksgiving featured scaledAs I sit here looking out my window, multi-colored leaves are falling off my big, lovely tree in my front yard (okay, my tree isn’t quite as vibrant as the one pictured, but you get the idea). It finally feels like fall to me. Halloween wasn’t quite enough to get me into the “fall festive” feeling. Even though it still gets up to 80 degrees at the peak of the afternoon…

Top 5 Places to Shop: Accessories

top 5 feature scaledI exited the freeway the other day and noticed that there is a new Home Goods store coming soon. This store is one of my favorite stores to shop for accessories and it got me thinking about other stores that I love. I realized that this is another question that I get asked a lot. Where to find accessories that are affordable, yet chic? So, I have compiled a list of my Top 5 Places to Shop for Accessories (in no particular order)…

Favorite Neutral Paint Colors

paint chipsOne of my favorite things about interior design is selecting gorgeous and complementary wall paint colors. This was my specialty when I worked at Five Star Interiors (local model home design company). I spent hours choosing the perfect paint colors to coordinate with the current color scheme and designed details to match. A frequent question that I get while consulting with my current clients is: “What are some good overall…
