Hi Friends! Thank you for visiting Rugh Design. I’m Laura Rugh, which rhymes with kangaroo…in case you weren’t sure how in the world to pronounce it! I live in Austin, Texas with my husband, John and our three sweet girls.
My main (and most important!) jobs are being a wife and a stay at home momma to my three little loves. A few of my other favorite things are: spending time with friends, coffee (can I get an “Amen?”), tex-mex (and the plethora of other local Austin foodie restaurants!), writing, organizing, crafting and decorating. I’m a self-proclaimed “homebody” and can be found curled up in a comfy nook of my well-worn, kid-stained sofa with a fuzzy throw blanket reading a book.
I find my inspiration for design (and paint colors!) from art, the outdoors, travel (although limited during this season), books and the ordinary moments of life…like peering out my kitchen window to see the vibrant green grass that has turned into a lush jungle due to all the rain as of late. Growing up, I learned a lot from my Mom who loves to decorate. She took the time to coordinate each room in our home, while designing with things that were valuable to her and meaningful to our family. Her knack for pulling a room together with the perfect color scheme choices, inspired me to pursue design and still inspires me today.
I studied at Texas Tech University and graduated with a degree in Interior Design. After graduation, I moved back to Houston and worked as a Design Consultant/Assistant Manager at a trendy furniture company. Shortly after, I moved to Austin where I most recently worked as a Project Designer at a model home design company, specializing in selecting paint colors and coordinating interior selections (flooring, trim, cabinets, tile, countertops, etc.).
When I found out I was pregnant with my first baby girl, we decided that I would be a stay at home mom. While this remains one of the best decisions of my life, I still wanted to be able to use my gift of design and creativity while also providing some income for our family. When my daughter was six months old, I started Rugh Design (my interior design company) and this blog. At first, I had no idea anyone would ever read a blog post, but my paint recommendations have started to help others in ways that I never imagined! I give all the glory to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who is the ultimate Creator and has given me any creative giftings that I have in the first place.
Enjoy perusing Rugh Design and be sure to let me know if you have any questions or would like to schedule a color consultation!
